Argentina captain Lionel Messi has said that his World Cup journey will end with the ongoing FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.

35-year-old Messi said that he will not play another World Cup after reaching the final by winning 3-0 against Croatia on Tuesday night.

“I’m happy to finish my World Cup journey by playing in the final,” Messi said in a conversation with Argentine media Diario Deportivo Ole.

Messi mentioned that the next World Cup is four years away and he didn’t think he would be able to play like he is now.

“It is best to end this journey like this (by playing the final),” he said.

Argentina have not lifted the World Cup title since 1986. Two-time world champions Argentina are closing in on a third title this year.

Argentina will compete for the title on Sunday against the winner of Wednesday night’s semi-final between Morocco and France.
