Portugal has entered the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar after scoring goals against Switzerland.
While securing a place in the quarter-finals, Portugal scored a 6-1 victory over Switzerland in the last 16 match.
Forward Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick in Portugal’s win. He scored 1 goal in the first half and 2 goals in the second half. He is the first player to complete a hat-trick in Qatar World Cup.
Rafael Guerrero, Rafael Liao and Pepe added 1-1 goals for Portugal. In the 17th minute of the game, Ramos gave the team the early lead by scoring a pass from Joao Felix.
Acting captain Pepe doubled the lead in the 33rd minute. Pepe headed in a Bruno Fernandes corner to give the team a 2-0 lead in the first half.
In the 51st minute, Ramos scored his second personal goal and third for the team. In the 55th minute, Rafael Guerreiro scored a pass from Ramos to make Portugal’s lead 4-0.
- In the 58th minute, Switzerland’s Manuel Akanziel signaled to return to the game by returning the goal. But in the 67th minute, Ramos completed the hat trick.
He achieved a rare feat of hat-trick in the World Cup and led the team 5-1 in the match. Liao scored a goal in injury time to give Portugal a 6-1 victory.
Portugal will now face Morocco in the quarterfinals. Morocco reached the quarter-finals after defeating former champions Spain in a penalty shootout last night.
